Adding images to your blogger blog is rather easy to do. The part I see most people make the mistake of is not giving it a title or description, without this the search engines have no clue what this picture or image is. So remember anytime you add an image to your blog make it search engine friendly by adding titles and descriptions to your images.
Adding image to your blog can drive traffic to your website or blog 2 different ways. A lot of people that think they know everything about advertising and search engine optimization will try to argue this until they read how it works. They will say adding images to your website or blog will not help you get ranked higher or drive traffic to your website. Well for all you search engine optimization experts sorry to burst your ego, but adding images to your website or blog will drive more traffic to your website or blog and also rank it higher in the search results!
How does adding images to my blog get me higher in the organic search engine results? Simple just like you have been placing keywords and phrases throughout your website trying to get known for different keywords and keyword phrases, well same applies here. The search engine can not see this image, it is just a computer program, so it looks for a title and a description of this image. Now if you have no title or description, sorry, you don't move up in search results, you will stay where you are. Now if the search robot does see titles and descriptions on your images, and these titles and descriptions are relevant to your content, you will get bumped up higher in the search results!
How does adding images to my blog drive more traffic? Well if you have titles and descriptions on your images, you will get ranked higher in the search results if they are relevant to your content therefore driving more traffic. Another way that adding images to your blogger post is that you will now be placed on Google's image search engine. So now someone goes to Google's Image Search searching for images named quilt, and they see a bunch of quilts here, now they like the image of this quilt so they click on it, and now it takes them to your website or blog about quilting because that is where this image was found.
Now for the steps to add images to your blogger blog, making your blog more search engine friendly and keyword optimized.
- Login to your blogger account.
- Open the post you want to add images to, you can do this from the dashboard by clicking on Posts, under the manage section. Then click on Edit next to the post you want to add images to.
- Click on the add image button, which is a small image of a mountain and sky scene. A pop up window will open asking for some information.
- On the left hand side is to upload an image from your computer's hard drive, which you just tell it where this image is located at on your PC and it will upload the image to your blog. On the right hand side is if you want to add an image to your blog that is already on the internet somewhere. To do this, go to the website with the image you want to use on your blog using firefox, right click on the image, go to Copy Image Location, now paste it here.
- Choose where you want this image to be aligned, none, left, right, or center. If you choose left or right your content will wrap around the image.
- Select the size of the image you want to add.
- Uncheck use this layout everytime if it is selected, I don't think it is by default.
- Place a check mark in the box for the Terms of Service.
- Click Upload Image
- Now this is where most people stop and never add descriptions to their images to where the search engine robots can use them. You should now be looking at your post and see the image here now.
- Click on Edit HTML on the top right corner of the post box, this will display the HTML code of your post.
- We are going to add information in the image HTML code, specifically to the
alt=""attribute, which is ALTernate text. You should seealt=""inside of the<img src="" alt="" />code, we are going to place your description in here, using a keyword or keyword phrase.alt="some keyword"like if you had a website about computer and you uploaded an image of a computer (well any image rather), make italt="custom computer". - Done
