Add Insert Images on WordPress Blog Post Page

How to add or insert images or pictures to a WordPress blog post or page

Inserting images into a WordPress blog post or page can be benificial in 3 ways. You can make your blog look more attractive to your viewers, you can also use images to do more search engine optimization making your content more keyword optimized, and you can also drive traffic with images! First thing to know when adding images, you can go overboard making your blog post or blog page too busy or cluttered, avoid doing this!

Now a lot of people ask how the heck are adding images going to make my content more keyword optimized? Simple, the search engine robots can not see what this image actually is, the search engine robots look at the names they can find on this image, like filename, title, and descriptions. See now how this will help? If not don't worry, I'll explain. A search robot can't see your image, so when it looks at the image's filename, title, and description, it uses this information to figure out what this image is, which we are going to use some keywords and keyword phrases for these 3 things! So now the search robots see you have keyword optimized text and now the robots also see that you have images related to this text content as well, so now the robot thinks you are even more relevant and will increase your ranking in the search engine results. Some people make the mistake of just tossing images in their content and not naming them, this doesn't help your ranking in the search results at all, be sure when adding images you do not skip this step of naming them.

How is adding images to my website going to drive traffic to my website? Easy, ever use Google Image Search? When Google's search robot crawls your blog it will also grab a separate list of all the images on your blog and add them to the Google image search database. So now someone goes to Google Image Search and searches for example: memory quilts, leather interior, or scrapbook layouts.. and you have images on your blog with those filenames, titles, or descriptions, you will be ranked in those search results as well! Now someone sees a thumbnail of an image they like, so they click on it, now this brings up the page or post on your blog with this image in it. Easy, instant, and free traffic!

Now that I explained how adding images to your blog content will help you drive traffic to your website and increase your ranking in the organic search results, let insert some images in your content by following these instructions. There are 2 ways you can add images to your blog, you can either use images that are already on the internet somewhere, or you can upload your own. If you are using images that are already on the internet on another website or blog, you do not have control over the filenames, but you still have control over the title and description. I will cover both methods of adding images or pictures to your blog content.

Add/Insert/Upload an Image/Picture from your PC to your Blog:
  1. We need to rename all your image's filenames to keywords and if you need spaces use a hyphen or dash - as search engines don't like spaces. If you are in Windows Operating System right click on the image and go to rename, now type in the name you want it to be example: memory-quilt, picture-memory-quilt, scrapbooking-layout, scrapbook-layout, etc. You can also add other names incase you have multiples: memory-quilt-complete, memory-quilt-01, pink-black-scarpbook-layout, etc. You can make them as descriptive as you like, just make sure that they have atleast 1 keyword in them.
  2. Now login to your WordPress blog by going to http://your-domain.com/wp-admin/
  3. Open the Post or Page you want to add this image to
  4. Just above your post/page content on the right side is Visual and HTML buttons, just to the left of that is a "Add Media" section with 4 buttons, if the "Add Media" buttons are not there, click plugins and scroll down to WP-Amazon and Deactivate it, this will not remove your amazon affiliate product links, just disables the plugin so you can have your add media buttons, just remember if you want to use the amazon plugin to click plugins and then scroll down to wp-amazon and click activate.
  5. Click on the first button in the Add Media section, which should be called Add an Image if you hold your mouse above it.
  6. A windows will popup asking for some information. Just under "From Computer" there is a box, click the "choose" button to the right of this. This will open another window to navigate though your PC's files, find the image you want to upload, click on it. This box should now dissapear and take you back to where you clicked "choose" button.
  7. Click on the "upload" button just to the right of "choose". This will upload the image from your copmuter to your webhost's computer.
  8. After it is done uploading it will ask for a few things.
  9. Title: should have your filename here, this is fine, if you don't like it, change it a bit.
  10. Caption: keyword optimized short description.
  11. Description: different keyword optimized description or same just make sure there are keywords in these
  12. Link URL: Don't change this
  13. Alignment: Select your alignment/placement
  14. Size: select your size NOTE: if you choose thumbnail or medium I think WordPress makes this clickable to bring up the full version
  15. Click "Insert into Post" (even if you are editing/creating a Page
  16. If you want to place this same image somewhere else on another page/post you can open that page/post in edit mode, follow those same steps until you get to the upload section, instead of clicking upload click on either gallery or media library, and you will see all the images you have, click show, then follow the rest of the steps.
Add/Insert an Image/Picture from another Website/Blog:
  1. Open up Firefox webbrowser and go to the website or blog that has an image you want to use on your blog.
  2. Right click on the image you want and then click on "Copy Image LOCATION", this will copy the web address of where this image is stored on the internet.
  3. Go to your WordPress blog and login by going to http://your-domain.com/wp-admin/
  4. Open the Post or Page you want to add this image to in edit mode or create a new Post or Page, either way, same procedure applies.
  5. Now click on the Insert/Edit Image button just above the Post/Page content, looks like a small tree icon.
  6. A new window will open up with some blank boxes, enter the following:
  7. Image URL: right click in this box and go to paste, this will paste the image location that we copied.
  8. Image Description: Enter a keyword optimized description of this image.
  9. Alignment: select where you want this image to be placed
  10. Dimensions: leave as they are.
  11. Border: 0 (or blank)
  12. Vertical Space: 2 or whatever you want, this is how much space will be inbetween this image and any other content above or below it.
  13. Horizontal Space: 2 or whatever you want, this is how much padding to place inbetween this image and any other content to the left or right of it.
  14. class: leave blank
  15. Click Insert
