How to Submit Your Website to a Search Engine for Free
To submit web page on the search engines is FREE, don't pay to submit to search engines!
When submitting your website to the search-engines, remember this process is 100% FREE! You should never pay to submit your web-site to a search engine. There are many search-engine submission websites that will charge you a fee to submit your page to search-engines. They say they will submit your website url to multiple search engines for one low fee. Well this isn't even needed! There are only 3 search engines to submit to! These are Google search engine, Yahoo! search engine, and MSN search engine! All the rest of the search engines are powered by these 3 main search engines! All the other low traffic search engines are usually powered by one of these major search engines, and if they aren't they will index and scan your website when they find another website linked to yours, known as backlinks.
Make sure before submitting your website to the search engines, make sure that you already created a robots.txt file and also created a Google xml sitemap. Also remember when submitting to search engines that each time you update your website you need to create a sitemap again and resubmit your sitemap.xml to the search engines again to notify them you have updated your website. Now time to learn how to submit a site to search engines!
On add url to Google page it will ask for URL, Comments, and a captcha image verification.
In URL: box enter your full domain name with http:// prefix, like http://247-coach.com
In the Comments: box enter a few keywords that describe your website. This is not used in anyway for pagerank or indexing purposes, like How to Start an Online Business, work-at-home business
In the last box is your human verification captcha image, just type the letters that appear in the image. Sometimes these are difficult to read, but Google's usually aren't that bad.
Now, you guessed it, click "Add URL" button. Your website is now added to Google's search robots list of websites to index. Sit back and be patient until Google's search robots indexes your website! Be sure to continue reading down the page to learn how to submit to Google search engine using the Google Webmasters Tools method and also how to check what pages on your website have been indexed by Google no matter which method you use to submit to Google's search engine.
Now if you are wanting to submit to Google search engine using Google's Webmaster's Tools, the recommended method, follow these instructions:
You will see your "Dashboard". This is where you can add your website. In the box that says "Click here to add a site" click there! Now enter your website's URL with http:// as your prefix. http://247-coach.com
Click on "Add Site" button on the right hand side of the box. Now Google will ask your to verify that this is your website. There are 2 methods you can use here. You can either add the meta tag code to your website, or you can upload a blank file to your public_html directory. Uploading the blank file is the easiest, so I will cover this method here.
Open up notepad on your computer, or some plain text editor. START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > NOTEPAD.
Don't need to type anything in the text file, just go to save, at the bottom select file type "All files", now enter the filename google wants you to use, probably something like googleajsni349d.html
Now we need to upload this to your website. You can use and FTP client, or even use your webhost's built in filemanager if they have one.
Now tell Google you've uploaded the file and for them to verify. Great, your website is now verified, Google knows you are the owner of this domain name now. Next we need to tell Google where your sitemap is located.
Click to go back to your dashboard if you are not already there. You will see a box with all of your websites listed in it. The 2nd column is labeled sitemap, under this you will see a link "add". Click on that link to add your sitemap.
Google Webmaster's Tools will now ask you what type of sitemap this is, select "Add General Web Sitemap".
Now you will be asked where your sitemap is located in box 3, you will see your domain name is already there, you just need to add the path, which will most likely be sitemap.xml if you used my directions to on how to create a website sitemap.
Click on "Add General Web Sitemap", and you're done! Now you can always go back to Google Webmasters Tools, login, and check on your stats. Click around see what's what, you won't break it!
Now if you are wanting to check what pages of your website Google has already indexed you can search Google for site:domain.com just like this, if you were wanting to see what pages have already been indexed on my affiliate business website you would go here: 247-Coach.com's Indexed Pages. If you are using Google's Webmaster's Tools then you can login and view all kinds of stats!
Now you probably want to submit your website to Yahoo's search engine right? Well I will not write a step by step guide on how to submit to Yahoo search engine as it is almost identical to submitting your website to Google search engine using Google Webmasters Tools, you will use Yahoo's version called "Yahoo Site Explorer". To use Yahoo Site Explorer you need to have a yahoo account just as we had to have a google account to login to Google Webmaster Tools
