Best Keywords for Online Advertising

How to get the right keywords when choosing keywords

Choosing the best keywords for online advertising is essential for increasing traffic to your website and often done wrong by many internet business owners. When choosing keywords you want to be sure they are good keywords for your website. The main thing to consider when choosing keywords for your website is to make sure they are relevant. Don't use internet keywords like "business" even if your website is about business, use website keywords like "business help", "business guide", and "starting a business". Use specific website keywords when choosing keywords.

When determining which search engine keywords you want use in your meta keywords section, be sure that they are also low competition keywords. If there is already 1 million other websites targeting these internet keywords that have been running for years, you will most likely never be found on the search engines for those keywords. There are some keyword research methods I will guide your through so you will learn how to get the right keywords.

You also want to consider if people are searching in the search engines for these keywords. You can target "guide on how to start an online business for little start-up cost easily" yeah you will probably get in the #1 spot on google search engine for that search engine keyword phrase, but who is going to search for that? So make sure you use website keywords that are being searched for. There are some keyword research tools that I will show you how to use to figure out what keyword phrases people are searching for in the search engines. There are free keyword research tools and paid for keyword research tools. I recommend just using the free keyword research tools. The free keyword research tools will not give you as acurate results, or every search engine keyword phrase, but they are free, and good enough. Some of the paid for keyword research tools give you a little more accurate results, more search phrases, long-tail keyword phrases, and some market research to show you competition and such.

  1. The first step is to figure out what is your article about? Not your entire website, but each individual page, for example this specific page on my website I am targeting "meta keywords", meta-keywords, and metakeywords. Even though my entire website is about starting an online business, business help, online business guide, etc. I do not target that on this page, only targeting the internet keywords that are most relevant to this page which is "meta-keywords". So write or type all the meta-keywords you think would be relevant to your webpage or webpost you are wanting to make keyword optimized.
  2. Next we want to read your post or page and think, what keyword phrases would I type in on the search engines if I was looking for this information. What internet-keywords would others search for? Write or type these keyword-phrases as well.
  3. Now to do a little internet research on your keywords for your website, for this step you will want to look at my list of internet research keywords tools and choose which one you want to use. For this keyword research guide I am going to be using the free internet research keywords tool called SEO book which is powered by wordtracker.
  4. Search using your keyword research tool using general keyword phrases, and specific keyword phrases you think is most relevant to your website. Now in the results of your keyword research tool you will see all of the internet keyword phrases people are searching for, and in the 6th column over you will see how many people are searching for this term every day. If people are searching for this keyword phrase more than 1,000 times a day, it probably has higher competition on it and will be harder to get ranked for it. But write all of these keywords down that are relevant to this exact page or post you are wanting to do meta tag optimization on.
  5. Now time to research the competition on these keywords, now you know what keywords people are searching for, how many times a day people are searching for these metakeywords, which ones are more relevant, now we need to see what kind of competition is on these internet-keywords you have listed. Go to Google search engine and we are going to search for each one of these keyword-phrases you have listed. On the top right of Google you will see "Results 1-10 of about XXX,XXX", where XXX,XXX is, this is how many other websites mention this phrase and/or mention the words within this phrase somewhere on their website, this is not your direct competition. Now if you place quotes around your keyword phrase you are searching for "keyword phrase" and click search again, you will see this number drop dramatically. Now this will say "Results 1-10 of about XX,XXX" and this is all the websites that have this exact phrase on their website somewhere. This may be someone just mentioning something about the phrase you entered or they may actually have a website based on this as well, most likely the first half of the pages are someone doing a website on this, the rest are probably just mentioned somewhere on their website, now this number you want to be lower than 50,000. If this number is 1-5,000 you should be able to get high on the search results for that keyword phrase with little effort, if this number of results is 5,000-50,000 it is still doable, but will need a little effort involved. If this number is more than 50,000 it will take you probably years to get known in the search engines for that search term.
  6. So now that you have keyword phrases that are relevant to your website, someone is searching for, and low competition, where do I place the keyword phrases? There are many places that you will want to use these keyword phrases, you will want to place them in your meta tags, which are meta keywords and descriptions, you will also want to place them in your content, such as your titles and in your actual article itself, and finally you will also want to create backlinks from other websites to yours with those phrases clickable.

If you are using a wordpress blog there are many seo blog software you can use known as plugins that will write these codes in the websites html code for you, but you still have to type them in the form that asks for them! If I installed your blog software, you have both All in One SEO Pack and Headspace2 installed, most likely Headspace2 active because All in One SEO Pack quit working with a few version of wordpress, but it is back to working again, so my newer students you may be back on All in One SEO Pack. If you are writing your website by hand using a text editor, the HTML code for meta tags specifically the meta tags for keywords is:

<meta name="keywords" content="your,meta,keywords,go,here" />

which will go in your <head></head> tags as well and for your meta tag descriptions you can read: Writing HTML Meta Tag Descriptions.

Remember to place these keywords you researched throughout your entire page, in your titles, descriptions, keywords, and your actual content or you will not get known in the search engine results easily. I hope now you will know how to get the right keywords for online advertising. If you still need help on choosing keywords please ask for help on my Online Advertising Help Forum!
