Making your WordPress blog post search engine friendly
A blog's posts should be used for helpful information type of content, things you can always talk about relevant to your blog's content or niche. You can even place affiliate ads or banners in your blog posts as well, but make sure they are ads that are relevant to this post. You can also add images to your blog post, but when doing so you may as well have your images help rank you! A search engine can not "see" your images, it don't know what they are, but the search engines will look at your title and alt tags of the image to see what they are, for more information on this read: inserting an image in your blog.
A lot of people think, just because they place content on their blog's posts search engines will find it, yes this is true, but what are they going to find? How well will you rank for what is found? Basically the search engines come here, grab info, parse through it, see what they come up with, there are many many other factors at play here, but to write an SEO blog post is your first step. So you need keywords through out your content. Now if you were on a judge in a court room and you were given 2 blog post but all you were given was the keywords found through out this post.. #1 is build engine, engine, engine, build engine, car, car engine, build car engine, and it was titled How to Build an Engine. #2 blog post, you are given, engine, build engine, build motor, cam shaft, crankshaft, pistons, bolts, nuts, gaskets, automotive car engine, automotive repair, car engine, car motor written all through out this content. Now they are both in your court room wanting to know who gets in a higher position, who will you rank higher? because you can't read their actual content to see who knows their stuff more, all you were given was their keywords found throughout the blog posts, so which one is more helpful? This is how the search engines see your blog posts and rank them!
Login to your wordpress blog, can be accessed by typing in http://domain.com/wp-admin/ in your favorite web browser.
Next you will want to click on WRITE at the top left of this page, this is where you will go anytime you are writing a new blog post.
You will now have 3 options here WRITE POST, WRITE PAGE, and WRITE LINK, click WRITE POST, which should already be selected by default.
Now you will be asked to provide a TITLE first, to create this post title I usually just think of a kind of catchy title with keywords that directly relate to this blog post. Example: If I was wanting to write a post about how do build an engine, I would make the title: How to Build an Engine Help Guide to Engine Building.
Now in this bigger box, this is where your content will be placed, I usually write out my content here first being very helpful and descriptive and act like I am talking to someone. Then I will go back read it to myself, and change any word or phrase to be more keyword rich, meaning have build an engine listed here a bit, now just because I have a bunch of build an engine listed here doesn't mean this is completely keyword rich yet. Now read it and think of what other terms relate to building an engine that we can write throughout this content? Maybe headers, camshafts, carberator, fuel injection, valves, crankshaft, timing belt/chain, etc. Now the search engines see all these other words related to building an engine, the more likely you will get higher ranking for this post.
Now for the TAGS, I usually take these same keywords and phrases and list them here with a comma separating them. Then click ADD.
Next you will be asked for Categories, you can categorize your website however you want to, I don't know what your blog is about to tell you what categories to make, if you stuck here, look at other websites on same content, see what kind of catagories they use. Maybe if I had a automotive blog, auto repair, auto tips, car cleaning, performance, maintainance, trouble shooting, etc., you can place a blog post in more than 1 category, you can place each post in as many catagories as you like.
Now if you have HeadSpace2 wordpress seo plugin you will have Page Title and Description now listed. This is what will be displayed to the search engines.
Page Title can be the exact same thing as the post title above. Sometimes If you have a lot of very common words like a, and, the, if, to, take them out here, but if you don't have a whole lot, leave them in, 1-2 won't hurt anything
For Description you want to have this very descriptive, keyword rich, catchy, yet still make sence and also try to keep it to 1-2 short sentences. Maybe something like Free information how to build an engine guide. Build your new low cost motor today with maximum performance.
